Dear FIU family,
As we wrap up our second week of the fall semester and look forward to a long Labor Day weekend, I want to take a moment to thank each of you once again for being responsible, diligent and optimistic during these challenging times.
On Labor Day, we pay tribute to all workers – past and present – who have contributed to our nation’s strength and prosperity. I thank all those who work tirelessly every day to ensure our university and our community prosper. I hope you enjoy this well-deserved long weekend.
As Panthers, we must not let our guard down. You have embraced our COVID-19 measures in a positive and proactive manner, protecting your health and the well-being of those around you. This weekend must be no exception.
Although COVID-19 case numbers have diminished significantly in South Florida, the threat remains, and we must all continue to step up and be personally responsible for our actions and decisions. Together, we can continue to slow the spread of this virus.
This weekend, as you take time to rest and have fun, remember to do so safely by adhering to health guidelines: Always wear your face covering, stay at least six feet away from others, avoid large crowds and wash your hands or use hand sanitizer often.
Though this holiday weekend may feel a little different because we are still dealing with COVID-19, you might want to consider it as an opportunity to engage in a new activity, perhaps a new hobby. Grab a book, catch up on your favorite series or on some sleep. Start a new exercise routine, such as going for a walk or run outdoors.
However you decide to enjoy your time off, please do so safely. Remember, in the spirit of Panthers Protecting Panthers, you must protect yourself, protect your families, protect your community.
Enjoy this Labor Day weekend and be safe!
Go Panthers!
