President Rosenberg receives 'superior' performance rating by Board of Trustees

The FIU Board of Trustees on Tuesday unanimously voted to give President Mark B. Rosenberg a “superior” performance rating for his accomplishments and leadership during the prior academic year.

With a “superior” rating, board members agreed President Rosenberg exceeded performance expectations on a consistent and uniform basis and made a unique or significant contribution well beyond performance expectations through remarkable achievement and pacesetting performance.

Among some of the accomplishments highlighted were:

• Continuous improvement in FIU’s rankings, with 41 programs ranked in the top 50, according to U.S. News & World Report.
• The Chronicle of Higher Education named FIU a “Great College to Work For®” for the fifth time - four years in a row with honor roll designation, as well as recognition in all 12 categories twice.
• FIU increased its lead as the top school for bar passage in Florida.
• Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine students matched into some of the most prestigious residency programs in the nation including Mayo Clinic, UCLA, Georgetown, Vanderbilt, and Emory.

At Tuesday’s meeting, which took place virtually because of social distancing restrictions, trustees also unanimously approved FIU’s 2020 Accountability Plan, which lays the groundwork for the university’s direction and priorities moving forward. This plan now goes before the Board of Governors for review.

The plan calls for FIU to transition from a more traditional institution of higher education to a 21^st-century, lifelong learner institution, where research and personalized learning experiences encourage students to incorporate learning throughout their lives. Specifically, FIU leadership addresses the COVID-19 pandemic and how the institution is committed to focusing on two equally important issues: fostering a new normal in which public health can be assured and helping to restore Florida’s economy so that the workforce can return to full employment and work toward prosperity.

FIU’s trustees also recognized Sabrina Leeloo Rosell, MMC Student Body President who also serves on the Board of Trustees and is responsible for communicating student interests and concerns to the Board. Tuesday’s meeting was her last as a trustee, as she is graduating next month with a B.A. in Political Science.

Board members highlighted some of Sabrina’s many accomplishments, including enhancing student success through strategic initiatives, supporting young women in pursuit of a career in government, and increasing university affinity among the student body by concentrating on efforts to increase game attendance. Sabrina says she will never be too far away from FIU and is expected to return to campus to pursue a graduate degree.
