Stempel College ranks 28 among top programs in the country for NIH funding

Stempel College’s School of Public Health ranked 18th in the country in most National Institutes of Health (NIH) funded public health programs at public universities, and 28^th overall, according to The Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research.

With more than $6 million awarded during the 2019 fiscal year (Oct. 1, 2018 to Sept. 30, 2019), Stempel College’s School of Public Health received the second most NIH funding in the state of Florida and number No.1 in South Florida.

“This ranking highlights Stempel College’s research excellence and our ability as a school to receive top funding from the NIH on an annual basis. I am truly proud of the faculty whose research has made this possible,” said Tomás R. Guilarte, dean of Stempel College.

He added: “We are pleased to be the highest-ranking program in South Florida, offering Stempel College students a unique opportunity in the region, learning alongside faculty who are making significant contributions to research and health.”

To create the annual list, Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research derives its data from NIH RePORTER, an electronic tool that allows users to search a database of NIH-funded research projects and access publications and patents resulting from NIH funding.

Out of a possible 177 public health schools nationwide (public and private), only a total of 67 schools had enough NIH funding to be included in the list.
