FIU researchers can now share finalized data sets publicly

February 24, 2020 at 9:23am

FIU Libraries recently launched a new research data portal, powered by Harvard’s Dataverse.

The portal allows FIU faculty, affiliated researchers and students to share finalized data publicly and expands existing data support services to include archiving of research datasets across disciplines.

Currently, FIU’s research data portal supports publishing of a variety of finalized data and electronic material created by the university community. This includes:

  • Spreadsheets
  • Surveys
  • GIS data and imagery
  • Code
  • And more!

How it Works

What are the benefits of the research data portal?

Increased visibility and impact of your research data.

Openly accessible data increases research visibility, helps facilitate new collaborations and enables verification of published results. Research datasets are discoverable through Google and are assigned their own Digital Object Identifiers (DOI), which supports citation and sharing.

Compliance with funder and journal mandates.

With more funders and publishers requiring data deposit in a repository, the research data portal provides an opportunity for researchers to meet those requirements.

Locally managed.

All datasets are locally hosted and supported for long term preservation and access. Library staff are available to assist with the deposit of datasets and to answer questions regarding formatting, access and permissions.

Easy to use.

Log in using an FIU My Account credential, upload data using the simple web interface and share.
