Accelerated program allows students to earn both a bachelor’s and master’s degree at Broward College and FIU in five years
The Chaplin School of Hospitality & Tourism Management at FIU and Broward College have partnered on an innovative program designed to facilitate students’ post-graduate education while saving time and money.
The "4+1 Combined Bachelor's and Master's Program" allows students to enroll in institutions simultaneously and take graduate level courses for credit while completing their bachelor's degree. Students at Broward College will graduate with their bachelor's degree in supervision and management and go on to finish with a master's degree in hospitality and tourism management at FIU.
"We have embarked on an extraordinary partnership and opportunity for our students," said Diann Newman, vice dean of the Chaplin School. "We are so excited to have Broward College students join us."
The program, which officially starts in fall 2021, is open to students with a grade point average of 3.2 or higher who have completed 75 credit hours at Broward College in the Bachelor of Applied Science in Supervision and Management. Students can choose to take up to four out of five pre-selected graduate-level hospitality courses at FIU’s Chaplin School, earning them 12 credits. The courses fulfill FIU and Broward College requirements and result in students needing to complete only 21 additional credits, rather than 33, toward their master's degree at FIU.
“This is really groundbreaking," said Paul Moore, dean of academic affairs (North Campus) and business and management pathway at Broward College. “We are always looking for ways to advance our students’ academic and career goals. If anyone told me I could go to school and work concurrently on my bachelor's and master's, that would have been a huge incentive for me.”
The Broward College Bachelor of Science in Supervision and Management is offered as full-time and part-time programs and prepares students to assume managerial roles in the public and private sectors. The program provides knowledge and skills in management, marketing, finance, operations, and strategy, all of which prepare students for various roles in the hospitality and tourism industry.
Known as the MBA for the hospitality industry, students in the master's program at FIU will gain specific managerial mastery to prepare them to work on the business side of a multibillion-dollar international industry. Students may study the general hospitality master’s degree or choose a focus in real estate, revenue management or mega and large scale events. Graduates of the Chaplin School are sought-after for their high-quality and relevant education.
