FIU is monitoring weather system moving through northeast Caribbean

August 10, 2021 at 10:01am

At FIU, we are monitoring a weather system currently moving through the northeast Caribbean that is forecast to become Tropical Storm Fred as early as today. Although it is still unclear how this storm will impact South Florida, the National Weather Service has indicated our region could experience heavy rain and potential flooding later this week and this weekend.

We ask that you monitor local media and pay attention to updates from the National Hurricane Center throughout the next few days.

Please note that FIU has a communication protocol to keep the community informed about university operations during emergencies, including storms.

Please look for emails, follow FIU on FacebookTwitter and Instagram and, check FIU News and monitor local media for updates.

Storm preparation may be a new experience for many members of our university community. For tips on what to do, please visit the FIU Department of Emergency Management website or Miami-Dade County’s Hurricane Guide.

Thank you for your cooperation.
