FIU partners with Jackson Health System on COVID-19 vaccination initiative

President Mark B. Rosenberg sent the following communication to FIU students on April 15.

Dear FIU students,

The COVID-19 virus remains a significant threat to all of us, and vaccination is the best tool to combat the virus and to protect ourselves, our neighbors, and our community.

At our FIU, our goal is to facilitate access to vaccines for our university community. That is why we have partnered with Jackson Health System on a COVID-19 vaccination initiative aimed at encouraging university students to receive the vaccine.

Through this partnership, all students age 18 and older can sign up for a vaccine appointment at Jackson. This includes Florida residents and out-of-state and international students.

If you are interested in getting a vaccine at Jackson, you can log on to Jackson’s online appointment portal at JacksonHealth.org and book an appointment at one of its three locations:

Jackson’s vaccine sites are open seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from the vaccine sites.

On the day and time of your appointment, students who are Florida residents must show their driver’s license, passport or other government-issued photo ID with birthdate at the time of check-in. Non-Florida residents will be required to show a valid student ID, along with a driver’s license or passport.

Jackson is exclusively offering the Pfizer vaccine, which requires two doses administered 21 days apart. Students who receive their first shots at Jackson will be required to return for their second dose three weeks later at the same location.

At FIU, we strive to help our Panther family stay safe and healthy. We are proud to be working on this initiative with our partners at Jackson, which has been one of the leading providers of COVID-19 vaccines in Miami-Dade County, vaccinating more than 160,000 people over the last four months. I strongly encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity.

Vaccines are also available at multiple locations throughout our community. You can also pre-register with the state to be notified when vaccines are available in your area.

Please remember that vaccinated or not, we must all continue to wear face coverings and to observe COVID-19 mitigation guidelines as we work to bring more of the university community back to our campuses safely.
