FIU partners with state to bring COVID-19 vaccine bus to MMC April 20-22

President Mark B. Rosenberg sent the following message to the university community today.

April 19, 2021 at 12:29pm

Dear FIU family,

As part of FIU’s continuous efforts to facilitate access to COVID-19 vaccines for our community, we have partnered with the office of state Rep. Daniel Perez and the Florida Department of Health to bring a vaccine bus to MMC this week.

The health department vaccine bus will be stationed at the gravel parking lot near PG5 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. this Tuesday through Thursday, April 20-22. Please see map below.

The vaccine bus will offer the Pfizer vaccine to the community at large on a first come first served basis. In addition, a limited allotment of vaccines will be available at the bus for FIU students, faculty and staff age 18 or older, or those 16 and older accompanied by a parent or guardian. Please show your FIU ID at registration, and you will be given a wristband before receiving a vaccine.

Please note that the Pfizer vaccine requires a second shot three weeks after the first shot. The health department vaccine bus will return to administer second doses the week of May 11.

While our goal is to continue to facilitate access to vaccines for our university community, we urge you to take advantage of the first available opportunity to get vaccinated. There are multiple locations locally where you may receive a vaccine. You can also pre-register with the state to be notified when vaccines are available in your area.

In addition, as we announced last week, FIU has partnered with Jackson Health System on a COVID-19 vaccination initiative aimed at encouraging university students to receive the vaccine. Through this partnership, all students age 18 and older can sign up for a vaccine appointment at Jackson, including Florida residents and out-of-state and international students. Update: Beginning April 20, Florida residents and college students can walk up to Jackson Health System's three vaccination sites without an appointment to get the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine. Individuals with an appointment will be prioritized.

Also, beginning Wednesday, April 21, the last daily appointment will be at 2:45 p.m.

At FIU, we strive to help our Panther family stay safe and healthy. Please remember that vaccinated or not, we must all continue to wear face coverings and to observe COVID-19 mitigation guidelines. Also, before arriving on campus each day, every member of the university community must complete the P3 app questionnaire. Together, we can ensure everyone’s wellbeing as we bring more of the university community back to our campuses safely.

If you have any questions, please call the FIU Help Desk at 305-348-5100.

Sincerely,
