Governor Ron DeSantis has appointed Carlos Duart to the Florida International University (FIU) Board of Trustees.

“We are delighted to welcome Mr. Duart to the FIU Board of Trustees,” said FIU President Mark B. Rosenberg. “He and his wife Tina Vidal-Duart are dedicated, involved alumni. Duart understands our university and has the passion and vision to help steer FIU’s trajectory of success.”

He also has evaluated public-private partnership projects, alternative project delivery methods, financial modeling as well as the procurement and supervision of international transportation projects under the World Bank and Inter-American Development Bank.

He has served on the FIU Foundation board and is an inductee to the university’s Entrepreneurship Hall of Fame. Duart is also a member of FIU’s business school Entrepreneurship Hall of Fame and a recipient of the FIU Outstanding Alumnus Medallion and the FIU Torch Award. He earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting and master’s degree in taxation from Florida International University.

Duart succeeds technology entrepreneur Leonard Boord, who just completed a six-year term on the board.

His wife, Tina Vidal-Duart, is CEO of CDR Health and has served on FIU's President's Council and Honors College advisory board.

"As a proud and involved alum, I am thrilled to join the FIU Board of Trustees to continue supporting the university's mission of becoming a Top 50 institution," Duart said. "FIU is full of talent, diversity and innovative research, and is the driving force of our South Florida community and beyond. It is an honor to bring my expertise and enthusiasm to the board and be part of the success that is sure to follow."

Duart’s appointment, to a term ending on Jan. 6, 2025, is pending confirmation by the Florida Senate.
