Let's get hired: What you should know to prepare for job fairs in Miami

This month is #MiamiTechMonth and Miami is booming with open positions and local talent ready to fill the roles.

From career fairs like today's Venture Miami Tech Hiring Fair to networking events and panels, Miami is ready to get you HIRED. Are you ready to land your dream #MiamiTech job? 

Here's what you need to know to prepare and say YES to the job!

1. Don’t wing it! Do your homework on the companies in which you’re most interested. Browse their websites, get to know the team, and be prepared – prepared candidates always win the game.

2. Have your resume, online portfolio, LinkedIn pages or access to your Github ranking (if you’re a coder) ready. Make QR codes that scan directly to your portfolio or an online resume. Perfect that elevator pitch. Get ready to sell yourself!

3. Focus on building memorable relationships and conversations with recruiters and hiring managers you meet at the hiring fair. Ask informed questions that show you’ve researched the company, and you’re interested in what they do.

4. Be your AUTHENTIC SELF. You don’t need to present anything to an employer other than yourself. If you’re a good fit, the employer will see your potential. You don’t need anything else other than that.

5. Follow Up! Follow Up! And just in case you didn’t see… FOLLOW UP! Get those recruiter business cards and LinkedIn profiles and FOLLOW UP with thank you notes and conversation recaps. state your name, what you talked about, and that you’ve applied for a position (or are getting ready to apply) at their company.
