Tropical Storm Nicole update: FIU operations remain normal

Tropical Storm Nicole update: FIU operations remain normal

November 9, 2022 at 3:33pm

At FIU, we continue to monitor Tropical Storm Nicole, which is expected to make landfall along Florida’s east coast sometime this evening – possibly as a Category 1 hurricane.

Miami-Dade County is no longer under a tropical storm watch. Broward and Palm Beach counties are under multiple watches and warnings. While the forecasted path of the storm has shifted north of Miami-Dade and Broward counties, the area is expected to be impacted by wind and rain.

University operations will remain normal today and Thursday. We ask that professors and supervisors exercise flexibility with students, faculty and staff who may be impacted by the storm or the closure of schools in Broward and Palm Beach counties. We also ask that university departments with scheduled evening activities today exercise caution and take appropriate measures to ensure everyone’s safety.

Any changes to university operations will be communicated to the university community immediately. Please continue to monitor your emails.

Also, please monitor local media and pay attention to updates from the National Hurricane Center throughout the next few days.

Thank you for your cooperation, and be safe.
