FIU sent the following message to the university community on Friday, March 18, 2022.
The FIU Board of Trustees’ Governance Committee met today to interview executive search firms and selected R. William Funk and Associates, based in Dallas, Texas, to assist with the search for FIU’s sixth president.
Funk and Associates has extensive experience recruiting for R1 universities and has successfully placed presidents at several institutions, including Rutgers University, Indiana University, Texas A&M University and University of South Carolina. The firm has also helped recruit for FIU leadership positions in the past.
The other firm interviewed today was Storbeck Search Diversified Search Group, based in Media, PA. The firm SP&A Executive Search was also scheduled to be interviewed today but chose not to continue the process because they were selected this morning to lead the presidential search at the University of Florida. In total, the committee considered six firms.
Now that the search firm has been selected, the next step in launching the presidential search is to name a search committee to work with Funk and Associates in identifying, recruiting, and vetting candidates.
In accordance with Florida Board of Governors regulations, search committees must have no more than 15 members representing students, faculty, and the community. Regulations also require at least three Board of Trustees members and one from the Board of Governors serve in the search committee.
Committee members are expected to be announced in early April.
The Board of Trustees has reiterated its commitment to a thorough, diligent, and collaborative search process and will provide the university with frequent updates and opportunities to work together. Please stay tuned for details on an upcoming community forum, an opportunity for FIU students, faculty, and staff to share their thoughts and expectations about our next president.
