Early voting begins today on campus

October 21, 2024 at 9:00am

As it has for several years, FIU is serving as an early voting site, this time in anticipation of the Nov. 5 general election.

Registered citizens can cast ballots from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. from Oct. 21 through Nov. 3 at the Student Academic Success Center (SASC) Multipurpose Room at MMC.

Anyone registered to vote in Miami-Dade County can use the location or any of the other 32 sites that will open on Monday. Vote-by-mail ballots can also be deposited into a secure ballot drop box at any of the locations.

Votes can be cast for U.S. president as well as for U.S. Senate and Congressional races, state and local offices and state constitutional amendments, all of which appear on the ballot.

Students, faculty and staff as well as the general public are all welcome to use the FIU site. Those driving to campus specifically to vote should note that the SASC building is near the entrance of SW 107th Ave. and SW 16th Street. Free parking for voters is available just east of the SASC building, in Lot 3.

The Miami-Dade County Elections Department shares the following suggestions in advance of the Nov. 5 general election.

Voters are reminded not to wait until Election Day to cast their ballot. During early voting, registered voters can go to any of the sites throughout the county; however, they must go to their assigned precinct on Election Day.

Additionally, voters who plan to vote early should review their customized sample ballot ahead of time, research candidates and questions and be properly informed before heading to the polls. They should take a screenshot or print their sample ballot, make their selections and bring it with them. Being prepared will help expedite the voting process.
