FIU rated a “Best Value” university by Princeton Review

The good news just keeps on coming. A day after welcoming 5,300 new students to campus, FIU has received a second top national ranking this week.

The Princeton Review has named FIU a Top 50 “best value” public university. The “exceptional features” that earn an institution inclusion in this elite category include, according to the rankers:

• stellar academics
• affordable cost (either a low sticker price or generous financial aid, or both)
• strong career prospects for graduates

The combined data puts FIU among the leading public schools recognized for high “return on investment” – a measure used to evaluate the financial worth of attending a given institution. To ascertain the “ROI” for a given university, a comparison is made between what students spent to attend and their ability to attain well-paying jobs after graduation.

FIU landed in 34th place. Only 50 public universities, among the hundreds reviewed, were called out for their high ROI, earning them a “best value” ranking.

The Princeton Review put it yet another, simpler, way in its explanation, calling the schools “the best bang for your buck.”

The Princeton Review is the gold standard education-services company that helps students prepare for college and achieve their academic goals.

The ranking follows Washington Monthly's earlier release of its annual College Guide and Rankings, which recognizes universities for both research excellence and their efforts to ensure the success of students of all backgrounds. The publication rates four-year institutions based on their contribution to the public good in three broad categories: social mobility, research and promoting public service. FIU ranks No. 3 among public universities.
