Hurricane Milton update No. 4: FIU resumes normal operations on Friday, October 11

Dear members of the university community,

We hope that you and your family are well and safe from any serious impact from Hurricane Milton.

Initial assessments have determined that FIU facilities and grounds sustained very little damage. Normal FIU operations will resume on Friday, October 11th.

Below is additional information about services available at MMC today:

  • Green Library: Open from 2-10 p.m.
  • Graham Center: Open from 1-9 p.m. (including Welcome Center and game room)
  • For limited dining options in the Graham Center, please consult Shop FIU.
  • Wellness and Recreation Center: Only the south side (facing housing) open from 2-9 p.m.
  • CATS shuttles will operate as of 2 p.m. (MMC-BBC route resumes on Friday)

Please note that at BBC, Roary’s Café is open today. All other venues will resume normal operations on Friday.

As you return to campus, please remain vigilant and look for downed power lines and obstructions on the roads. Avoid driving through flooded roadways. If you see flooding or encounter any access issues at any of our campuses, please report it to FIU Police at 305-348-2626. Any other damage on campus should be reported by calling 305-348-4600. Your safety remains the top priority.

Students who are directly impacted and cannot attend their classes should notify their instructors. Students who need financial support, please reach out to eaid@FIU.edu. Counseling and other support, including Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS), BetterMynd, and Togetherall, are available through Student Health & Wellness. We encourage students to take advantage of these and other resources by visiting shw.fiu.edu.

Members of our faculty and staff who are personally impacted by Hurricane Milton should work with their supervisor to determine the needs of the department and whether they need to take annual leave to attend to personal responsibilities. Those who need additional support, are encouraged to reach out to the Office of Employee Assistance and Wellness at 305-348-2469.
