Congratulations, new Panther. Your academic journey at FIU begins now. As you take your initial steps, know that FIU has your back, with boundless resources, support and opportunities to get you where you want to be. Consider this your invitation to explore a whole new world of experiences.
Your time at FIU depends upon what you make of it. Let's help you get started..
Organization
Begin on the right foot.
FIU Mobile App
Put everything in the palm of your hand with the must-have digital download that makes it easy to check your class schedule, register for courses, find cool events on campus, navigate parking and even see if your favorite eatery is open. The mobile application interfaces with the MyFIU portal, so you can easily contact an advisor, view the academic calendar and make payments. Find it in the app store.
Required Instruction
Have you fulfilled your mandatory online training requirements on topics such as career readiness and hazing prevention? The non-credit modules should be completed through your MyFIU account, usually within your first semester. Tackle them in a timely fashion to avoid a hold on future course registration.
Academic Calendar
Review a list of important semester dates and deadlines online or via the mobile app, such as the last day for dropping courses, the day that end-of-semester grades are available to students and when tuition is due.
Critical Pending Items
Check the “To-Do List” in your MyFIU account for any outstanding documents or other information related to enrollment, registration or financial services that require your immediate attention.
Advising and Degree Planning
As you progress in your studies, remember that you can seek guidance from your personalized success team through the Panther Success Network within MyFIU. There you can connect with your assigned advisor, schedule appointments and find useful resources.
Wellness
Take a healthy approach to academic success.
Sound Body/Sound Mind
Student Health and Wellness offers a range of services covered by the student health fee, including physical exams, online and in-person therapy, nutrition consultations and more.
Fitness
With the latest in workout equipment, group classes such as dance and spinning and designated space for basketball pickup games and more, the FIU Wellness and Recreation Center at MMC and BBC have what it takes to keep you in shape. Present your One Card for entry.
Campus Involvement
Develop critical skills while having fun.
Campus clubs and Orgs
Panther Connect, within MyFIU, is the one stop for information about hundreds of student-run clubs and organizations that cater to academic, social and professional interests. To make the most of your time at FIU, get involved early. Find your community outside of the classroom, which in turn will promote your success and personal development.
Greek Life
Social fraternities and sororities offer a variety of leadership and other growth opportunities for members as well as the potential for lifelong friendships and an expanded network of alumni who provide mentorship and can assist with internships, job searches and more.
Center for Leadership and Service
Ready to engage with the broader community through service? FIU makes available online learning and hands-on opportunities to help you hone communication, organizational and teamwork skills that will serve you personally and professionally.
Panther Spirit
Catch it at upcoming events.
Week of Welcome: The first week of the fall semester, Aug. 25-29, features fun, food, giveaways and special events on both campuses. The full schedule will be released later in the summer.
Panthers' F1RST NIGHT: The two-part evening bash on Monday, Aug. 25, in Pitbull Stadium, begins with a celebration for new students and their families as they join FIU’s president and other leaders for a formal welcome ceremony followed by music, entertainment and general Panthermania on the field for the entire student body. RSVP.
Home football opener: The Panthers take to the field for the first time under new head coach Willie Simmons on Friday, Aug. 29. Present your One Card for entry into the designated student section at Pitbull Stadium (you can also secure a free companion ticket at the box office for a non-FIU-affiliated guest). Before the game, join the revelry on the promenade of nearby Tamiami Hall.
In addition to the above, explore the university’s many other useful resources - such as micro-credential offerings, critical skills badges and tutoring - as well as what your specific college or school has in place to set you up for success.
There’s no better time to be a Panther. What will you do?
