Do your part: Help increase culture of belonging by taking one survey

The deadline to complete the Belonging Survey has been extended until November 22.

With more than 5,500 responses and counting, the Belonging Survey has given students, faculty and staff the opportunity to share their feedback on the campus climate in regards to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.

Given the openness and disposition the Panther community has demonstrated in sharing its experiences at the university, the deadline to complete the Belonging Survey has been extended to Monday, November 22.

“The Belonging Survey is one of the key recommendations that came out of the Equity Action Initiative (EAI), so the Division of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion wants to make sure everyone has an opportunity to make their voices heard,” said Emmanuele Bowles, director for the Division of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).

The goal of this survey is to help the university establish a baseline for the division's efforts.

“We want to know more about how students, faculty and staff perceive our campus climate," Bowles explained. "The survey results will help to inform the university’s DEI efforts as we enhance our campus environment through a diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging lens."

The division's plan is to repeat the survey in the future to track the university’s progress toward institutional DEI goals.

Only current FIU students, faculty and staff may take the survey. Though respondents may be asked to submit their FIU email address to confirm if they are current students, faculty or staff, the survey is anonymous, so responses are completely confidential.

The information disclosed in the responses will not be used to investigate specific individuals or incidents, even if they include experiences with discrimination or harassment. Students, faculty and staff who wish to report any incidence of discrimination or harassment at the university should visit the Office of Civil Rights Compliance and Accessibility webpage
