Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum-FIU presents “Kacey Jeffers: Multitudes”
“Multitudes” is the artist’s solo museum debut
The Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum-FIU announces the opening of New York-based artist Kacey Jeffers’ solo museum exhibition: Multitudes. On view through May 4, 2024, Multitudes features photographs of communities and people on the Caribbean island of Nevis, Jeffers’ native country.
The exhibition includes twenty-five photographs from various projects, all created on Nevis, that consider the aftermath of colonialism on Nevisian culture—examining aspects such as school uniforms, family life, tourism, cultural celebrations, and the act of photography itself—prompting contemplation of the humanity that populates an island often thought of only as a tourist destination.
He illuminates his interest in authentic representation throughout each body of work in this new exhibition.
“These images express my fascination with using my personal and cultural stories to picture a shared humanness,” said Jeffers, in his extensive artist essay. “I hope this exhibition encourages you to reflect on the idea that by rejecting the limitations of singular narratives, we actively contribute to the revival of empathy and compassion for those different from us.”
Jeffers began his professional photography career in 2015 after securing an artist visa and moved from Nevis to New York. Upon moving back to Nevis in 2018, he began to use photography as a way of connecting again with his family, community and culture. Multitudes encapsulates his career up to this point.
“Jeffers’ keen sense of observation and thoughtful consideration of his subject matter will inspire our visitors to think in new ways about the communities in which they reside,” said Jordana Pomeroy, director of the Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum. “As a community-oriented museum, we find in Jeffers’ practice a respect for humanity, a value that Dr. Martin Luther King taught us.”

The Frost Art Museum will host an opening ceremony for this exhibition on January 24, 2024, from 4 to 6 p.m. The event takes place at the Frost Art Museum, located at 10975 SW 17th St. and is free and open to the public.
